Béton Brut Gallery

Béton Brut Gallery is a new collaboration between Creative Wick and Béton Brut. A gallery that will host exhibitions of the work of Hackney Wick and Fish Island’s best established and emerging artists. Béton Brut‘s first exhibition opened on the 14th September featuring Gavin Turk, presenting ‘Transit’. Gavin Turk’s new exhibition at the Béton Brut Gallery takes place against the backdrop of the fast changing and rapid redevelopment of Hackney Wick. Uniting the creative community and encouraging collaboration, the exhibition is a project which counters the negative impacts of gentrification in Hackney Wick. A variety of local businesses, makers, producers and suppliers have come together to stage the exhibition, including the printmaker Tom’s etching studio, exhibition partner Truman’s Brewery and gallery partner Currell.

Béton Brut is a furniture modern design store, prop house and gallery in East London specialized in rare, architect-led design from France, Italy, Netherlands and Scandinavia.

Gavin Turk is one of Britain’s most renowned artists. In ‘Transit’ he presents a new series of etchings derived from the exhaust emissions of his white van. Shown alongside ‘White Transit Van Compression’ – we see an icon of British culture reduced to a single abstract form: a crushed cuboid, a dark stain. We will be also giving a spotlight to local Hackney Wick artist Thomas Moore, who presented a series of etchings called ‘Exodus’.
